According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2010 is the Year of a Golden Tiger, which begins on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011. The first day of the lunar New Year 2010 falls on the 14th day of February, which is Saint Valentine's Day, so it is a day the West celebrates as a lovers' day, a day of romance. To the Chinese, it is the start of the Golden Tiger Year. The Tiger is the third sign in the cycle of Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 animal signs. It is a sign of courage. This fearless and fiery fighter is revered by the ancient Chinese as the sign that wards off the three main disasters of a household: fire, thieves and ghosts. On New Year's day itself, it is beneficial to celebrate, to be happy, to have smiling faces, and to refrain from scowling, quarreling, or criticizing anyone.

The origin myth of Gregorian chant is that the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, alighted on Gregory the Great's shoulder and dictated the entire canon of liturgical chants to him. It's a lovely story but not in any way true. Yet, the little white bird of inspiration holds powerful sway over composers. As Dolf pointed out yesterday, one of the most helpful bits of advice we ever got from a composition professor was to "Kill the Bird". If you sit around waiting for inspiration, you're passing up the opportunity to write music.When Shania Twain first went to Nashville, she was horrified at the professionalism of the songwriters there. They set aside specific times during the day to write, and she subscribed to the notion that songwriting was an organic act. The music comes when it comes. You can't force it. If you're Mozart or Dylan, this can be true. Both writers spoke of their compositional process as essentially being divine dictation (as per the Gregorian legend), but most composers can count on one hand the number of times inspiration has presented them with a fully formed piece of music. Most writing is a struggle of will, and learning to write when inspiration is absent is an important skill for any composer.
Gold Kryptonite
This rare variety of Kryptonite, to which all surviving natives of Krypton are vulnerable, would permanently rob Superman of his super-powers were he ever to be exposed to its baleful radiations.
Because Gold Kryptonite has appeared in the chronicles only infrequently, data concerning it is sparse beyond the fact that its radiations can be shielded by lead (S No. 157/1, Nov 1962: "The Super Revenge of the Phantom Zone Prisoner!"; S No. 179/2, Aug 1965: "The Menace of Gold Kryptonite!").
In August 1965, it is explained that a Kryptonian's loss of super-powers due to Gold-Kryptonite exposure would invariably be inherited by his or her offspring, thereby rendering the offspring incapable of acquiring super-powers in those environments—like that of Earth—where Kryptonian survivors normally acquire them (S No. 179/2, Aug 1965: "The Menace of Gold Kryptonite!"). However, in September 1986, in an imaginary story, it is shown that ten years after Superman has lost his powers due to exposure to a massive dose of Gold Kryptonite, his infant son is able to squeeze a lump of coal into a diamond (Act No. 583, Sep 1986: "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?"--Pt. II).
